Music Ministry

Pope Benedict (4/30/2009): "Music can reflect the grandeur of God and can become a vehicle for adoration."

Through music, participation in the choirs and/or cantor program helps to build an understanding of the church's sacraments and beliefs while providing a way to actively participate in the expression of these beliefs.

The ability to read music is NOT required.  Your musical skills and knowledge will increase with experience.  All that is required is your interest in singing and a willingness to commit your time to this group.  Although the ability to read music is not required, the children will improve their skills over time.  It is said that worshippers endowed with the ability to read music are more likely, on a practical level, to participate in communal song.

Cantor Program

Mission:
To lead the singing of liturgical music; to lead prayer through song; to provide a venue for active liturgical participation through music.

Meeting dates and times:
Cantors do not have a regular like the Adult and Children's Choirs.  There are several cantors who sing at the 5 pm Saturday, 7:30, 9, and 10:15 am Sunday Masses.  Cantors provide availability for dates and times and the Music Director generates a schedule based on every one's availability.  Cantors do not necessarily sing weekly.  For example, it is possible to cantor only once per month.  Rehearsals are individual and occur as needed.

Contact Names and telephone numbers:

Other details:
While the ability to read music is not required, it is helpful.  The cantor must be self-confident and willing to sing in front of the congregation.  Cantors must be open and willing to learn new material as requested.  New cantors will be trained by the Music Director.
